DENIM FLAGS
My pieces are made using denim, as a way to pay tribute to my maternal grandparents who moved to the U.S. and sustained a living by working in denim production and ranching. I view denim as a working-class and durable material that my relatives continue to wear for their jobs, to church, and other formal celebrations. I am very interested in flag structures and their unique meanings. Who makes up a nation or state that flies these flags? What groups of people are they truly made to represent?
