On May 24, 2022, an armed shooter killed 19 elementary students and two teachers at Robb elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, a town I took yearly camping trips to during Texas summers. Due to the lack of regulations in the state of Texas, the shooter was able to legally purchase an AR-15 style weapon at the age of 18. And the lack of intervention from the Texas Department of Safety allowed the gunman over an hour within the school’s walls. This project documents the grieving process from locals affected by the shooting as well as Texans across the state hoping for gun reform. Uvalde captures religious relics and childhood toys displayed on the memorials of the victims in order to personalize the national epidemic of gun violence.
